We love calling Spenard home—it’s where creativity thrives and community is everything.

We have been in the Spenard area for 22 years and when we were looking for a new space one of our criteria was to stay in Spenard. We love the uniqueness of this area and the growth we have seen over these past 20 years.

Due to a family emergency we won't be open for @spenard2ndsaturday this Saturday but we love being part of this community and want to remind you all there are lots of fun events going on. Be sure to check out our stories to see the line up!

Cool cool cool is what I say at the end of this video. Not quite what I expected to walk into on Wednesday morning.

One of our water lines went in the middle of the night leaving us with inches of water in our production areas.

Silver linings:
✨We got to really scrub down the floors which was on the to-do list

✨Our contractors did a great job of sealing the floors so most of it stayed in two rooms.

✨Thankful for staff who come in early and give me a heads up that my day is about to take a left hand turn

✨No one was hurt, no products, materials or equipment were damaged

✨Lastly, the plumber was already scheduled to change a sprayer hose that day so he was able to check all of our plumbing!

The many hats you wear as a small business owner is actually one of the reasons I love being one. Sometimes, you never know what the day will bring, you might even learn a new skill or find a whole new bottom on your machine that sucks up lots of water! I'm thankful for the supportive staff and community that help mop us up when we get a little wet.

This is Evelyn (and me!) back in 2019 when I first

This is Evelyn (and me!) back in 2019 when I first met her. Evelyn discovered Denali Dreams on her first cruise to Alaska in 2010 and has been ordering from us ever since. In 2019, she came back to Alaska on another cruise at the incredible age of 89, traveling on her own! When her ship stopped in Anchorage, she called the shop and told me to come pick her up. After some quick planning, I picked her up, and we spent the day exploring Anchorage and grabbing a bite to eat before she headed back to her cruise. We were good friends after that. We call each other once a month to catch up. She shares stories of being a race car driver at the spry age of 70 and helping a chicken farmer as one of her first jobs.

Fast forward to this August, I had a long layover in Seattle, so we decided to take the bus to visit Evelyn and meet her son Russ. It turned into quite an adventure when one of the buses broke down, and another drove right past us without stopping—but we made it!

The friendships I’ve made through Denali Dreams are so special to me. I love hearing about your lives and how much Alaska means to you.

One of my favorite things about traveling the world is exploring different neighborhoods and seeing the vibrant murals that give each place its own unique character. Now, we're excited to bring that same energy to Spenard! 🎨 Our next dream? Transforming these brown walls into a stunning mural that reflects the spirit of our community. Because let's face it—we all need more art in our lives!

Do you have lye soap?

We get this a lot from customers whose parents/grandparents made the soap for the household growing up. Back in the day, DIY soap making at home was more of a guessing game than a recipe. You threw some fat in a pot with some burnt logs and whipped up a "batch of soap". These bars of soap would typically be lye heavy, which made for great laundry soap but not so great on the skin. Lye is very caustic so anything that is lye heavy isn't recommended for washing your body with. In a soap recipe, it's preferred to be heavier on the oils/fats, one to make sure there aren't any free floating lye in your soap and second to add an extra moisturizing aspect to the soap. Thanks to technology and amazing scientists, there are websites and formulations you can do to help you craft the perfect bar of soap that isn't lye heavy. To answer plainly after my long winded answer, we don't carry lye soap.
